Northampton Saints will kick off the 2013-14 Heineken Cup on Saturday October 12 away to Castres Olympique after the fixtures for the new season’s group stages were confirmed on Monday.
Jim Mallinder’s side were drawn in Pool One for the tournament along with Castres, Leinster and Ospreys, and have been handed a trip to France first up with the return leg at Franklin’s Garden on the final weekend of the group stages.
The first home game of the tournament for the Saints is against Welsh regional side Ospreys on Sunday October 20, which is likely to see summer signing Kahn Fotuali’i up against his former club.
Northampton then face back-to-back matches against Leinster in a repeat of the 2011 Heineken Cup final, which saw the Irish side triumph after fighting back from being 16 points down at half time.
Leinster visit the Gardens on Saturday December 7 before the Saints travel to Dublin a week later, with both matches kicking off at 6pm.
The dates for the trip to Swansea to face the Ospreys and the home match against Castres will be finalised following the first four rounds of matches.
Should Northampton qualify from the pool, they will play in the quarter finals on the weekend of April 4-6. The semi-finals are on April 26 and 27, with the final at Cardiff’s Millenium Stadium on Saturday May 24.
