Suspension won"t concern Cockerill

Leicester Tigers boss Richard Cockerill believes his lengthy suspension won’t have an impact on his side’s start to the new season.

Suspension won

The former England front-rower was issued with a nine-game ban for his behaviour in his team’s victory over East Midlands rivals Northampton Saints in the Aviva Premiership Grand Final last season.

Leicester have taken steps to appeal the decision which could shorten Cockerill’s ban at the start of the domestic campaign.

However the Tigers director of rugby has stated he has no concerns over his suspension and has faith in his management team which consists of the likes of Paul Burke, Richard Blaze and Geordan Murphy.

He said: “My job is to worry about coaching the side and get everything prepped here.

“As it stands I will miss the first nine games of the season but we have good coaches and the reality is most, if not all, of the prep is done during the week.

“I don’t go out there and play. I am not scrummaging, kicking the goals or affecting the play. We have coped with it [Cockerill being suspended] before so I am sure we will be fine again.”
