The 34-year-old former Wales skipper, who is the Wolves’ club record points-scorer, had hinted that he was considering following Adrian Morley in opting to see out the rest of his career away from Warrington.
But the Wolves announced on Wednesday that Briers had agreed a new deal that will take him past his 35th birthday.
“I am really over the moon to have signed an extra year at Warrington,” Briers said.
“After a horrible start to the season with a neck injury, I am delighted that the club has given me this opportunity to finish my career here and also further my career in youth development coaching.
“Even though I had offers from other clubs, there was only one place I was going to sign. The fans here are second to none.”
Briers has amassed 2,571 points in more than 400 appearances for Warrington since joining them in 1997 from home-town club St Helens.
His tally comprises 152 tries, 945 goals and 73 drop goals, the most recent of which secured a 19-18 victory over Leeds earlier this month.
Briers won the Lance Todd Trophy as man of the match in Warrington’s Challenge Cup win over Leeds at Wembley in 2010 and will be a key player in Sunday’s semi-final against Hull at Huddersfield.
Briers, who will be assistant to Wales head coach Iestyn Harris for the World Cup, recently joined Warrington’s backroom staff and is expected to hang up his boots at the end of next season to concentrate on coaching.
