Rugby League - Shock loss for leaders Featherstone

Rovers went down 12-10 to Swinton at Leigh Sports Village, although they stay top of the table on points difference courtesy of a losing bonus point.

The Lions led 12-4 at half-time thanks to tries from Richie Hawkward and Kevin Penny and held off the visitors’ second-half fightback to climb off the foot of the table.

Jonny Hepworth and Matty Dale scored Featherstone’s tries, with Liam Finn kicking a goal.

Batley suffered a sixth straight defeat, going down 18-16 at home to Workington.

John Kear’s men led 14-6 at half-time thanks to tries from Miles Greenwood and Ben Black and three goals from Tom Hemingway.

But the Cumbrians scored three unanswered tries in the second half through Jarrad Stack, who had also touched down in the first half, Kayle Connor and Andy Morris.

Halifax are just two points behind the pacesetters after pipping York 18-16 in a close-fought game at The Shay.

Relegation-threatened York led 16-12 early in the second half after scoring tries through Jack Lee, Jack Latus and Ben Johnston but winger Rikki Sheriffe came to Halifax’s rescue with the match-winning try on 52 minutes.

Craig Ashall and Andy Bracek had earlier scored Halifax’s first-half tries.

Hunslet dropped to the foot of the table, despite gaining a bonus point from a 19-12 defeat by Leigh at the South Leeds Stadium.

Andy Thornley, Jonathan Pownall and Steve Maden scored Leigh’s tries, with Martyn Ridyard kicking three goals and Ryan Brierley adding a late drop goal.

Lee Brickwood and Lee Mapals scored tries for the Hawks, with Leeds hooker Paul McShane, playing on a dual-registration, kicking two goals on his debut.

Doncaster kept alive their play-off hopes with a 32-4 victory over lowly Barrow at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Lee Waterman scored two second-half tries, to add to first-half efforts from Chris Spurr, Dennis Tuffour, Danny Cowling and Matty Dawson, while Stewart Sanderson kicked four goals.

Jordan Davies, on loan from Salford, scored the only try for Barrow, who remain in relegation trouble.
