Rugby League - Salford release Mauro

The 26-year-old prop joined the Reds, along with Sea Eagles team-mate Liam Foran, in February but he started only one Super League match, with his other seven appearances all coming off the bench.

Salford, who are expected to rebuild their team under coach Brian Noble for 2014, parted company with Foran a week ago and announced that Mauro, too, will leave by mutual consent and return to Australia.

“The Reds would to thank Vic for his efforts and wish him every success in his future career,” the club said in a statement.

Mauro’s departure comes despite an acute shortage of front-row forwards for the Reds’ next game at leaders Huddersfield on Sunday week.

Jake Emmitt, Lee Jewitt and Darrell Griffin were all banned this week for punching offences during last Friday’s 16-12 win over Catalan Dragons and Welsh international Jordan James was injured in that match.
