Uganda Rugby Union has urged all clubs and other rugby playing entities to take all guidelines of the game seriously to avoid incidences that may lead to loss of lives during the rugby games.
This warning comes after the tragic and sudden of Yusuf Zaidi Baban who collapsed during the Nile/Buffalos game in Jinja last Saturday. “The Uganda Rugby Union is calling upon all clubs and other rugby playing communities in this country,to take the guidelines we send out send out seriously,” Andrew Awor, the Uganda Rugby Union president said. “Medical personel should be trained.We have a medical society that is willing to help train and we are willing to take the training to every channel.”
This is the second such incident on a rugby pitch in the past one year. Last year, Kenya Lionesses captain Aberdeen Shikoyi collapsed and died at Kyadondo Rugby Club during the Elgon Cup tie between Kenya and Uganda.
The Uganda Rugby Union has a Uganda Rugby Medical Society, that is always on stand up to avert such incidences however they also get medical insurance from various insurance companies in the country.
Awor stressed that the Union was working with the referee society,who will be checking and cross checking all these safety measures that have been sent out to the clubs before,and no game will start without these measures in place.
