The Ulster rugby squad is heading west next week and Mark Anscombe’s men will be holding open training sessions at the rugby clubs in Strabane and Donegal Town.
The two-day ‘mini tour’ kicks off over the border at Donegal Town RFC on Wednesday July, 31 where the players will be training between 10.30am and midday before they head to Strabane rugby club on Thursday, August 1 where the squad will be in action from 11.00am to 12.30pm.
The players and staff will also be holding mini-rugby coaching sessions at both locations following their own workouts and players aged between six and 12 years-old are invited to attend.
It’s not the first time the Ulster squad has been in the area and this event, which is part of Ulster Rugby‘s long-term community engagement strategy, follows on from last summer’s pre-season visit to City of Derry and in an event in 2009 when the players trained at the Letterkenny club.
Praising the work being done to expand the game in both Donegal and the North-West of the province, Ulster Director of Rugby David Humphreys said: “The visits to both Donegal Town and Strabane will give fans the chance to see how the senior team train and give them the opportunity to meet players that they might only have ever seen on television.
“This is a great way to say thank you for the support that the team receives from the North-West of the province and hopefully these visits will help inspire new players and followers to the game.”
