Rugby Union: Paul Milward stars in Uttoxeter victory

PAUL Milward kicked six conversions out of six to underline UTTOXETER’S polished display after pulling off their best win of the season in a 42-15 success at home to struggling Yardley District in Midlands Three West (North).

Flanker Jason Cabrera burrowed over for two tries either side of Lewis Bain’s score from Milward’s blindside break.

Milward scored himself soon after the break from a tap and go, while centre Henry Knox hacked upfield and scooped the ball up to charge over.

Uttoxeter’s sixth and final score was a penalty try.

LINLEY KIDGROVE’s only try came from Matt Oxford in the second half of their 25-5 home defeat by Ellesmere Port in South Lancs/Cheshire Three.

Linley were far more organised and prominent in the second 40 as the likes of Andy Cripps and Ashley Green came to the fore.

But there was no way back from a poor first half which had seen Ellesmere run in four tries.

NEWCASTLE crashed out of the Midlands Senior Vase at the semi-final stage after a humbling 71-0 defeat at Stewarts and Lloyds.

This was their worst margin of defeat for some time – and against one of their best opponents for some time.

Newcastle held their own in the scrums and line-outs, while their backs looked dangerous in attack, but there was no answer to the opposition’s bigger and stronger-running forwards and centres.

Too many gaps to the try line were left as Newcastle had to throw two or three players into every tackle within sight of their goal.
