Rugby League - Pettybourne charged over tackle

Pettybourne, who arrived back in England with his Warriors team-mates on Monday, was put on report for the high tackle two minutes before half-time of Saturday’s match, which Wigan lost 36-14.


The former Wests Tigers player, who missed the second half of the game at the Sydney Football Stadium with a bicep injury, has until 11am on Tuesday to submit an early-guilty plea and avoid a hearing.


Meanwhile, five players were charged by the Rugby Football League’s match-review panel with foul play in round two of the First Utility Super League at the weekend.


London Broncos hooker Scott Moore is accused of a grade D offence of making dangerous contact on Salford prop Darrell Griffin during his side’s 44-18 defeat by the Red Devils at The Hive.


Catalan Dragons prop Julian Bousquet, who served a four-match ban last season, is facing the possiblity of another lengthy lay-off after being charged with a grade D dangerous tackle on Castleford full-back Jordan Tansey during his side’s 32-6 defeat on Sunday.


He will appear in front of the RFL’s disciplinary committee on Tuesday, along with Moore and Hull KR prop Justin Poore and Huddersfield centre Joe Wardle, who were both cited for punching during a brawl in the game at the John Smith’s Stadium on Sunday.


Poore, who was sin-binned along with Huddersfield second rower Jason Chan for his part in the fighting, is charged with a grade B offence while Wardle, who was sin-binned in the same match for a separate incident, is facing a grade A charge.


Wakefield centre Dean Collis has been charged with making grade C dangerous contact with Bradford stand-off Lee Gaskell in the first minute of the match between the Bulls and the Wildcats last Thursday.


Gaskell is facing a lay-off of up to 12 weeks after damaging his knee ligaments in the collision.


Collis is eligible to make an early-guilty plea.
