2014 Legends Rugby will be bigger and better

Legends RugbyThe Legends Rugby Festival is back next weekend, even bigger and better than last year – and we thought that was impossible! With more than 50 teams competing and just shy of 1,000 players, Wimbledon RFC is the place for rugby fans and their families to be on Saturday, July 12.

The festival doesn’t only bring together Legends of the game for a competitive tens tournament, but a donation from the ticket sales goes to charity partners Tag Rugby Trust and School of Hard Knocks, giving something back to the game.

This un-missable event next Saturday sees rugby household names including Lewis Moody, Henry Paul, Serge Betsen, Robbie Paul, Junior Paramore, Dan Scarbrough and Sam Vesty pulling on their boots and returning to the pitch for a great day of rugby and fun in the sun.

Over half of the Aviva Premiership’s teams have confirmed they will be submitting a Legends squad including the Leicester Tigers, London Irish, London Wasps, Worcester Warriors, Gloucester, London Welsh and Bristol. For the first time Cardiff Blues Legends will be involved, representing the RaboDirect Pro 12 . Last year’s champions Saracens will also be there, battling to keep hold of the Paladin Legends Trophy.

This unique event, gives rugby fans young and old the chance to meet and share a beer with their sporting heroes, while enjoying some fantastic musical entertainment including mash-up masters JellyHammer and Cape Town 10’s favourites Me Mr Brown. With VIP tickets now sold out, those lucky enough to have already booked their place in the exclusive area will be able to dance the night away to tunes from DJ Marie Claire who has performed for various celebrity parties including Rihanna, Jay-Z and Kanye West.

Says Me Mr Brown frontman, Daniel Green: “We’re really excited to be flying in especially for the Legends Rugby Festival. Last year’s event was huge and we intend to make the party even bigger this year. It’s pretty rare to have an event that infuses quality sport with music, so we’re really looking forward to being in charge of the party off the pitch!”

Make it a family day with the dedicated Kid’s Zone where children’s performers Dazzle Fizz will be entertaining everybody and a traditional BBQ to keep everybody fuelled for a great day of rugby.

Ex-Leicester Tiger Legend, Leon Lloyd says: “Last year’s festival was brilliant and we’re excited to have even more teams entered this year. It’s fantastic to see the response and enthusiasm from ex-players alongside the support of current players who are coming along too to support their clubs.

“There is definitely a lot more going on this year, we have introduced a new City League tournament which has companies including J.P. Morgan and Accenture involved. We also have a women’s netball tournament for the first time which will take place on the new floodlit netball courts at Wimbledon. I’m looking forward to playing for the Leicester Tigers again and catching up with Lewis and the boys.”

Ex-internationals Dafydd James, Phil Greening, Serge Betsen and Catherine Spencer are this year’s ambassadors and have been supporting Legends Rugby in the lead-up to the festival.

The Carlsberg Beer League, Somersby Cider League, City League and the women’s rugby and netball tournaments are now full and tickets are selling fast. To buy yours head to www.legendsrugby.co.uk and use the promo code LR2014RUGBYPAPER to get 10% off.
