On Saturday, only weeks after swimming a length of Lough Derg, Rosie Foley (pictured), a PE and embankment clergyman from Killaloe, Co Clare, took on a tiresome swim.

The mom of three, who won 39 caps for Ireland, set off from nearby Dover during 7.52am on Saturday. She was accompanied by her commander vessel ‘Optimistic’ with Paul Foreman during a helm.

Rosie’s father Pat Minogue and good crony Fionnuala Walsh, who finished her possess Channel float in 2012, acted as her support team.

After 15 hours and 53 minutes, she stepped on to a French beach. The English Channel is roughly 35km (22 miles) during a narrowest point.

Back in Ireland, she said: “Living a dream we had given we were 11 was extraordinary and we get a good clarity of elation.”
