A third person has been arrested after a man was shot dead in a “targeted incident” in an abandoned car.

The man, thought to be his 20s, was found with gunshot wounds in Newton Road, near Newton, Rugby, Warwickshire, on Friday morning.

Police believe the victim’s car had been forced off the road and into a ditch. A shotgun was used in the attack.

Two people were arrested on Friday. One has been released without charge.

Both men who remain in custody are in their 30s, police said.

On Saturday, Newton Road was shut between Newton and the junction with Newton Manor Lane.

Police said despite the arrests they were still keen to speak to witnesses, in particular anyone who may have seen a silver hatchback car travelling along Newton Road, at about 11:40 BST.

Officers said they also wanted to speak to anyone who may have been on board the X44 Hinckley to Rugby bus, who may have useful information.

A spokesman said: “We had previously had reports that two vehicles were seen driving away from the scene.

“The driver of the red car has now contacted the police, however we are still interested to hear from anyone who may have seen a silver car in the locality of this incident.”
