Two rugby club stalwarts cycled the length of Ireland in five days to raise awareness and money for an injured player and development foundation.

Garry Tucker, 53, and Dave Sharp, 51, cycled from Malin Head – the northern most point of Ireland – to the most southerly point of Mizen Head for the RFU Injured Players Foundation and Letchworth Rugby Club Development Fund.

The pair were joined by Mike Allen from Letchworth Rugby Club and his brother David Allen for the second day of the challenge, which they completed earlier this month.

Gary has been the club’s physiotherapist for the last 12 years and Dave recently stepped down as club chairman after seven years.

Their wives Carolyn and Julie, as well as club president Brian Burke, provided support on the 480-mile trip by following the pair on a bus.

Gary said: “It was challenging but quite rewarding. After completing John O’Groats to Lands End last year for Cancer Research UK we decided to support a charity closer to home.

“Both me and Dave love rugby and we wanted to do something to support people who have been injured by the game or want to get involved and take up the sport.”
