Former Gloucester Rugby centre, England captain and World Cup winner, Mike Tindall, has announced today that he is hanging up his boots and retiring from professional rugby.
His impressive career has spanned 17 Premiership seasons and seen him win 75 caps for his country, while during the past two seasons heâs combined playing with coaching at the home of the Cherry and Whites, Gloucester Rugby.
The Otley-born player spent his first eight seasons playing for Bath Rugby, before he moved to Kingsholm ahead of the 2005-6 campaign.
During this time, Tindall battled several serious injuries but still managed to make more than 200 Premiership appearances in total, and 178 competitive appearances for Gloucester.
âI could play two more years if I really wanted to, but club rugby is a very special thing for me; itâs what I love about the game,â said Tindall.
âI was very lucky to be at two great clubs in Gloucester and Bath. And I want to thank them both for all they have done for me.â
He added: âObviously Gloucester is closer to my heart because of the way it finished and I was here for a year longer.â
Meanwhile, Gloucester Rugby COE, Stephen Vaughan, paid tribute to the player, describing him as a âGloucester Rugby stalwartâ who enjoyed a magnificent career and ânever gave less than 100 per centâ.
Tindall is reported to have retired in order to pursue his rising career in the media, which has seen him play pundit for BBC 5Live and TalkSport this season.
He currently lives in Gloucestershire with his wife, Zara Phllips, and their first-born daughter, Mia Grace.
