Rugby hero Tommy Bowe has revealed how he was blown away by the reaction to his engagement.
The sports star proposed to former Miss Wales Lucy Whitehouse in April after three years together, breaking the hearts of many female fans.
Bowe said: âI think we were both a bit taken back by it. It was announced and went on social media and the pictures came out and it became very public. We were both blown away by the response to it.
âYou walk down the street and people are congratulating you and you donât know who they are. You nearly feel like inviting them to the wedding.â
Bowe revealed how he has managed to convince his other half to come and live in Belfast.
He said: âWe are both very happy. Lucy has moved over to Belfast now and I think she is enjoying it.
âHopefully it will all go well and weâll get married sometime in the future.
âWe are both quite laid back with it. Weâre not getting too carried away at the minute but we are enjoying it.â

Â
The 30-year-old has revealed he is contemplating life after rugby as many of his teammates step down from the game.
He said: âI have just hit 30 years old unfortunately.
âBrian [OâDriscoll] is obviously retired and Ronan OâGara has retired and a lot of friends I would have played with over the years are starting to retire.
âEven Stephen Ferris who is 29 years old had to hang up his boots. It hits home you have to prepare.
âThatâs why I was getting involved with the guys, Lloyd and Price and Fifteen Kings, and getting an understanding of business and getting to see how the real world works.
âItâs a short career span and itâs about making as much of it as you can.
âIf you get to early to mid-30s unfortunately thatâs when the real life comes and thatâs the scary bit.â
The winger has been plagued with injuries for the past year and now he wants to pick up some silverware for Ulster and
get on Irelandâs World Cup team.
He told Saturday Night With Miriam:
âBeing injured is by far the worst part of playing rugby. Itâs my 11th year. I was
fortunate.
âIâve had eight years of pretty much no injuries but the last years have been hell.
Hopefully this is my year.
âItâs the World Cup at the end of the year and hopefully I will get back involved in that and weâll see how we go.â
