The Women’s Rugby scene at Liverpool Hope University is growing from strength to strength, and the positive 2013/2014 season, clearly rectifies this.

With the high intake of fresher’s at the beginning of the year, mixed with current existing players and cross recruitment from other sports teams, the Women’s Rugby section took off in style.

Regarded as the smallest University located in Liverpool, Liverpool Hope Women’s Rugby Union team had no fewer than 44 members, going above and beyond all the targets set at the beginning of the season.

The team travelled to a number of Universities based in the North of England and faced tough opposition throughout the campaign. They then entered a hectic final week; consisting of playing three games in seven days as they sealed the league title unbeaten.

All the hard work and commitment of the players, combined with the creditable and dedicated coaching and guidance of the back room staff, led the team to the BUCS Rugby Union 2013-2014 Northern 2A league championship (something that was last won seven years ago) and an appearance in the Semi Final of the BUCS Rugby Union 2013-2014 Northern Conference Cup.

From this, the team has gained a well-earned promotion and will start their 2014-2015 season in the league above, a new journey that the team are eager to start and are strongly preparing for.

A long with boasting a successful Union Team at the University, a Rugby League team has been set up and will be up and running at the start of the new semester (September 2014).

Both teams this year have joined Liverpool Collegiate Ladies Rugby Union team and Liverpool Lionesess Rugby League team as outlet teams in the community.

The University team is actively looking for sponsorship from local businesses to support the cost of the self-run Women’s Rugby Club which will help further develop the opportunities for women’s rugby at Liverpool Hope University….and who knows even more silverware may be on the horizon!

Be sure to follow the club on Twitter and Facebook.
