FACES from the world of rugby packed into a Llanelli church yesterday to pay their final respects to one of Wales’s oldest living international players.
Former Welsh and British Lions players Phil Bennett and Delme Thomas were among those to attend Capel Seion in Drefach for the funeral of Handel Greville.
Mr Greville, who lived in Drefach, died last week at the age of 92 after a short illness.
He was well known and respected throughout rugby circles after playing at scrum-half for Wales against Australia in a 6-0 win for Wales in 1947 at Cardiff.
He also captained Llanelli between 1948 and 1949 and became secretary, chairman and president of the club.
His sporting achievements were also recognised at the service as the ex-player’s Welsh International cap was placed on top of the coffin.
A floral tribute in the shape of a rugby ball was also given by Nigel Short and the Scarlets’ board of directors to highlight Mr Greville’s contribution to the club.
Bearers at the funeral included former player Mr Bennett.
