Three English clubs have been nominated for a top Parliamentary award thanks to their work in local communities.
Bristol, Sale Sharks and Saracens have been shortlisted for the BreakThru Award at the All-party Parliamentary Rugby Union Group’s Premiership Rugby Community Awards. The honour recognises clubs who use rugby to improve health, education and social cohesion in local communities.
This year’s shortlisted programmes are:
- Bristol Rugby’s the Phoenix Project – Bright Sparks programme, which works with secondary schools to help young people deemed at risk.
- Sale Sharks’ RuFIT programme, which aims to develop the fitness of men between the ages of 30-65.
- Saracens’ Skills Club, a programme that provides a sporting experience for people at the severe end of the autistic spectrum.
The Community Awards, now in their ninth year, feature four different categories: the BreakThru Award, the Play Award, the Community Impact Award, and, new for 2014, the Community Champion Award.
The winners will be announced at an award ceremony hosted by the All Party Parliamentary Rugby Union Group and World Cup-winner Jason Robinson in the Members’ Dining Room at the House of Commons on July 3.
