Rugby League: Nottingham Outlaws suffer heavy loss in Wales

Rugby League: Nottingham Outlaws were on the wrong end of a 42-10 defeat at the home of Welsh outfit Valley Cougars.

After a marathon six-hour coach journey the Outlaws rarely got into full gear and were well beaten.

The hosts led 6-0 after five minutes but Outlaws hit back with a solo try on ten minutes thanks to superb chip kick and gather by Jonny Shields.

But by the end of a scrappy first half, the Cougars led 18-6 and that lead was stretched to 34-6 by the hour mark.

Despite the game being out of their grasp the Outlaws refused to throw in the towel and pulled a try back when a looping 30-metre pass from Dan Smith straight from a scrum just evaded the home winger, setting Sam Campbell free on the 40-metre line and the young winger scorched in – Shields added the extras from the touchline.

But the home side bagged their seventh try to have the last say.

Outlaws now have a week off before hosting basement side Bristol Sonics in the National Conference South.
