THATCHAM Rugby Club has kick-started its fundraising campaign to build a new clubhouse.
The club launched its âBuy a Brickâ campaign at a recent fun day, during which awards were presented to mini and junior players for their successful season.
The club was granted planning permission to build a new clubhouse at Henwick Worthy sports ground last year. Currently the rugby and hockey clubs share a premises.
The club needs to raise £400,000 in total for the project. Sport England has granted £50,000 , and Greenham Common Trust has agreed to match this funding.
Contributions have been pledged from Rugby Football Union and the Berkshire RFU, and members have set a target of raising £75,000.
The clubâs president, Bob Moore, said: âWeâre probably one of the largest sports clubs in the town, with our mini and junior sections, O2 touch rugby teams and three senior teams, and we have ambitious plans to expand further, but we still donât have our own home.
âOver recent years, the hockey club has been brilliant in its support for us and hosting us at Henwick, but both clubs are growing and the club is now too small for both of us.
âItâs a huge project for us, but we canât afford to fail and we need to build a clubhouse thatâs going to give us a great facility for all our players and families for the next 25 years and beyond.â
Bricks cost £240, which can be paid in one, two or 12 instalments via www.findmeagrant.org/wberks Contributions to this site will automatically receive match funding from Greenham Common Trust.
