Rugby Union: England a man down as Manu Tuilagi misses Six Nations

“It’s a blow for him and for us”

Richard Cockerill

The news is a massive blow to England head coach Stuart Lancaster as he prepares his side to face New Zealand at Twickenham on Saturday.

Tuilagi, 22, was already ruled out of that clash due to a pectoral muscle problem, but the powerful centre hoped to be back in action next month.

Instead he was told he needed an operation and could struggle to be fit in time for the Six Nations tournament, which starts in February.

“Manu is probably out for three months,” said Richard Cockerill, the director of rugby at Tuilagi’s club side, Leicester.

“He has not been able to recover fully from the pec muscle injury with rehab and he had surgery yesterday to repair that.
