Rugby Union: Northampton could face fine for allowing George North to join up ...

The move goes against Premiership policy – which states only England players can be released to play for their country outside the official autumn international window.

Wales’ clash with Australia is outside that window – but his club say North must be released under the terms of his contract.

The winger, 21, moved to Northampton from Welsh club Scarlets in the summer after starring for the Lions in a 2-1 Test series triumph in Australia.

His club said: “The Saints management wants to make it clear that our agreement with George has not contravened any laws, rules or regulations.

“However, when it was finalised, the agreement included terms for his release to play international rugby which were outside Premiership Rugby board policy.”
