Rugby player Wilson on assault charge

Ally Maclay, 29, was treated at Glasgow’s Western Infirmary after an incident inside and outside a fast food shop in the city’s west end the weekend before last.

Three Scotland internationals – including Wilson, 24, and one national sevens squad man – were at the centre of a police probe.

A police spokeswoman confirmed yesterday: “A 24-year-old man is the subject of a report to the procurator fiscal as the result of an alleged serious assault and an assault.”

Glasgow Warriors forward Wilson is currently sidelined by a shoulder injury sustained while playing.

Wilson made his Scotland debut earlier this year in the Six Nations Championship and has a total of four caps.

He is on a six-month lay-off following shoulder surgery to repair damage he suffered during Scotland’s defeat by the Springboks during the summer tour of South Africa.

Maclay, a games coach at a top fee-paying school, plays for the Glasgow Hawks club.
