Stanley Security, sponsors of the Ireland Police Rugby Team, has confirmed   that the Irish Police Rugby will take on the British Police in Galway today, in aid of men’s health awareness initiative, Movember.

This match has been given the special title of “Clash of the Tache”, as players on both sides raise funds and awareness for issues such as prostate and testicular cancer and mental health.

The Sportsground in Galway, which is the home of Connaught Rugby, will play host for this game and kick off is set for 5pm.

The Irish team will once again have strong representation from all four provinces as players are drawn from both An Garda Síochána and the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI). They will be hoping to continue their recent excellent run of results which has seen them record back-to-back victories against the French police in Paris and Dublin and against the British Police at the Millennium Stadium in December last year.

Damian Broughall, Captain of the Ireland Police Rugby Team said, “We have had a great few tests over the last year and have come away victorious. The British team has always given us a good fight and we are really looking forward to another game of similar intensity later this week.

“This match has been dubbed Clash of the Tache and everyone involved hopes that we can raise some needed awareness of the importance of men’s health and remove the taboo that surrounds issues such as mental health. Supporters attending Wednesday’s game should watch out for some epic tache’s on the pitch in aid of this great cause.”

The Ireland Police Rugby Team is ten years old this year, having played their first game against the British police force in March 2003. It was re-launched under a new unifying logo in 2011, which reflects the coming together of the two police forces and the close relationships they have built up.

Willie Tighe, managing director of Stanley Security, the main sponsor of the Ireland Police Rugby Team said, “We have had a great year so far as sponsor of the Ireland Police Rugby team and it has been exciting to see them have so much success. We hope to continue supporting this ground breaking team on their road to further achievement and we are looking forward to welcoming the British Police team to Galway.”

The objective of the Ireland Police Rugby team is to provide opportunities for young police officers from both sides to come together and play rugby as Irishmen against high quality competition. As the game of rugby has become more professional in its demands, even in the amateur club game, the Ireland Police team provides the opportunity for young police officers to play rugby at a higher level. This has been cemented with an official endorsement of the Ireland Police Rugby concept by Mr John Hussey, President of the IRFU.

For all Irish and British supporters wishing to attend the game, entrance is free and everyone is welcome. Anyone wishing to show their support for Movember can go to http://moteam.co/ireland-police-rugby  to make a donation.
