Tries from skipper Katy Mclean, Maggie Alphonsi, Claire Allan, Ruth Laybourn and two from Kay Wilson set Gary Street’s side on the way to victory.

Mclean also added eight points with the boot and Amber Reed contributed two as England gained some revenge for France’s 30-20 win at HQ during the 2013 Six Nations campaign.

The first came after 15 minutes when full back Wilson was on the end of a good passing move to touch down for her fifth international try.

Mclean’s conversion from out wide made it 7-0 but France hit back three minutes later through the boot of Sandrine Agricole.

Captain Mclean added to her points tally after 22 minutes, spotting a gap in the French defence and racing through to touch down before converting her own score.

Alphonsi, making her first appearance in white for 20 months, scored England’s third as she crashed through several players before diving over, with Mclean adding the extras.

Wing Claire Allan was on hand to finish off a well worked move for try number four before Agricole brought the half to a close with her second penalty.

Wilson scored her second try soon after the break, picking up a quick pass from Alphonsi before touching down near the posts.

Mclean nailed the conversion to make it 33-6 but France hit back just minutes later when centre Marion Lievre intercepted a loose pass and touched down with Agricole adding the extras.

Laybourn scored England’s sixth with five minutes remaining as she out-ran the French defence and Reed added the conversion.

But France had the final word when Lievre went over for her second try, which was converted by Agricole.
