“Maland Yarde failed a fitness test on a hip injury sustained last weekend
this morning so Ben Foden gets his chance with Alex Goode on the bench.
“Ben has had a full week’s training on the wing, he is a great finisher and in
form so it’s a great option for us.”
Foden’s return is one of four changes to line-up, with Stuart Lancaster opting
to name a completely new-look front row.
David Wilson, the Bath prop, will make his first start for England at
Twickenham for three years as a surprise replacement for Lions tighthead Dan
Cole.
Dylan Hartley also returns to make his first start on the international stage
since receiving the 11-week ban that cost him his place on the Lions tour
while Joe Marler replaces the injured Mako Vunipola.
Alex Corbisiero, the hero of the tourists third Test victory over Australia,
had been expected to start having recovered from a knee injury but is named
on the bench.
Cole and Youngs are included on an experienced replacements’ bench which also
sees the return from concussion of Lions lock Geoff Parling.
“Joe Marler was excellent off the bench against Australia and merits his
opportunity, as does David Wilson, who has been pushing hard for selection,”
Lancaster added.
“Dylan gets a deserved chance at hooker with Tom Youngs on the bench
after the safe arrival of his first child this morning. Rob Webber remains
on standby.
“The Twickenham crowd was superb against Australia and we were pleased to get
the victory but we know there’s more to come from this team and we are
looking forward to building on that momentum for this weekend.â€
