ENGLAND centre Billy Twelvetrees could hang on to his place against Argentina.

Head coach Stuart Lancaster hinted after Saturday’s defeat of Australia that the Gloucester man could be axed, as his missed tackle handed the Wallabies their only try.

But Lancaster appeared to have had a change of heart last night when he said: “Billy is disappointed with one or two areas, but many areas were pretty good and we have to give him credit for that.

“Overall he had a solid game. There is scope to make changes but I’m not envisaging many.”

Luther Burrell and Kyle Eastmond are inside centre options.

Lancaster had appeared to be edging towards Burrell but now seems to favour giving Twelvetrees another chance to stake a claim.

The coach also appears to be ready to stick with the forwards who played so well at Twickenham, despite Alex Corbisiero and Geoff Parling returning to training.

“I am not going to start making grand statements about our pack, because we know there are definitely areas we can improve on,” Lancaster said.

“But when you look at the young age of the pack, their size and athletic ability, we have options building and depth emerging.”
