Chris Ashton bags glory for England after dodging Stuart Lancaster"s axe

Ashton was one of three players to score a first-half try, along with Billy Twelvetrees and Joe Launchbury, as England ran riot. Ben Morgan touched down late on.

The Saracens winger looked set for the axe in the build-up to the game following last week’s unimpressive showing against Australia.

After scoring only twice in his previous 17 England appearances, he earned a reprieve when Christian Wade damaged a hamstring in training.

Coach Stuart Lancaster, who has seen his England side win nine of their last 10 games, was ready to give London Wasps ace Wade his chance.
