Centre stage for England debutant Luther Burrell

“You have to build and win the next game and there is pressure in every position. At inside-centre it’s interesting to see how Kyle and Luther have played. Both are genuine options, Luther on form certainly.”

When Lancaster sent on Toby Flood, it was to replace Twelvetrees rather than a fly-half swap for Owen Farrell.

“We felt we needed more experience in that 12 channel. Billy did some great things, with one or two errors. He will be disappointed with that try,” said Lancaster.

England are third in the world rankings and with top-ranked New Zealand coming to Twickenham in 12 days, they must improve.

“Winning builds some momentum and allows the team to grow,” said Lancaster. “But it means nothing if we don’t turn up, perform and win next weekend.”
