Kyle Eastmond: Disciplined by Bath for last week’s walk-out
Bath RU have confirmed that centre Kyle Eastmond has been disciplined by the club for walking out on his team-mates in last week’s 27-20 win at Sale.
The former St Helens playmaker, who was born in Oldham, walked out of the club’s LV= Cup game at half-time and reportedly drove home.
Eastmond is understood to have said that he has had enough of rugby union and that he now wants to return to rugby league, the game in which he made his name, although Bath stress he remains part of their plans and is still under contract.
The 24-year-old switched codes in 2011 and after an injury-hit first season with Bath, where he has gone from strength to strength culminating in winning two caps for England.
Eastmond has one-year left on his three-year deal and his career could be at a crossroads, with Bath’s chief executive Nick Blofeld has confirmed the player has been disciplined after an internal meeting.
“The situation is being dealt with,” Blofeld told the Times. “Kyle has been disciplined but we are also helping him in what are difficult personal circumstances for him.”
A further club statement re-iterated Eastmond remains their player – it read: “Contrary to current reports, Bath Rugby can confirm that Kyle Eastmond is still in contract with the club and is very much part of the squad,”
“An incident arose at the Sale game last Friday which has led to an internal investigation, but this has been dealt with and both parties have put the matter behind them.
“The club will be making no further comment on this matter.”
