Moores was announced as the successor to Andy Flower on Saturday as England attempt to put a disastrous winter behind them with a change at the top.

The downfall was likened by Cook to that of the English rugby team under Martin Johnson, although the Red Rose have since had a resurgence under head coach Stuart Lancaster.

And Cook believes England should look to follow the rugby model as they attempt to rebuild the team and leave a lasting legacy going forward.

“The England rugby team has evolved particularly well and it would be wrong not to look at the way they’ve done that,” the England captain told Sky Sports News.

“That kind of stuff, the Englishness, the legacy you want to leave behind of the culture we want to create.

“I know they’re wishy washy words but it would be wrong for me to say everything before I’ve sat down with Peter and the players which is the most important thing.”
