LONDON Welsh will face Leeds Carnegie in the play-offs after hammering Nottingham at Old Deer Park to finish second in the table.

The Exiles will visit Headingley in the semi-final first leg on Sunday, May 11 (1pm) before hosting Leeds at the Kassam Stadium the following Sunday (12.45).

Both matches will be shown live on Sky Sports.

Leeds had briefly gone second by beating Cornish Pirates 36-3 on Friday night, but Welsh roared back with a ten-try demolition.

Wing Nick Scott led the way with a hat-trick of tries, but Welsh also had a player sent off for the second match running – replacement Alec Hepburn red-carded for a tip tackle on Dan Montagu.

Welsh led 31-0 at half-time and were 57-0 ahead before Nottingham got on the scoresheet.

The Exiles wasted little time in signalling their intent – Scott crossing in just the second minute.

Influential fly half Gordon Ross kicked the first of six conversions on his first appearance in 12 weeks.

James Tincknell scored try No 2 before Welsh prop Nathan Trevett and Nottingham hooker Campese Ma’afu were sin-binned for fighting.

Scott’s second was followed by the bonus-point try from hooker Nathan Vella. An 80-metre interception effort saw Scott run in his hat-trick score.

Flankers John Quill and Carl Kirwan added tries six and seven, while visiting fly half Matthew Jarvis was sin-binned for an early tackle. Welsh wing Seb Stegmann touched down twice before replacement Alun Walker and Jarvis bagged consolation tries for Nottingham, the latter converting his own score.

The Exiles were already down to 14 men after centre Hudson Tonga’uiha went off injured with all the replacements used, but Hepburn’s ill discipline saw them finish with 13.

However, they had the final say, Trevett barrelling over and replacement Alex Davies converting.
