BRISTOL Rugby have pulled off a major coup ahead of next season by signing Ross Rennie on a permanent two-year deal.

The Scotland flanker has been on loan at Bristol since January and has scored seven tries in nine appearances.

The 28-year-old openside, who has 20 caps for his country, will leave Edinburgh eight years after he made his first-team debut.

He joins a host of other players – including fellow flankers Jack Lam and Nick Koster, Ryan Jones, Dwayne Peel, Anthony Perenise and Matthew Morgan – who will join Bristol this summer.

And Rennie is confident he can earn a Scotland recall while playing for Bristol.

“Ever since I arrived at the start of the year, I’ve been made to feel incredibly welcome by the players, coaching staff and supporters,” said Rennie.

“I had been told that Bristol was a passionate rugby city, but playing in front of our supporters at the Mem and the interaction that the players have with the fans has really emphasised that. It’s a great place to be.

“I want to be playing in the top flight and regularly representing my country – I’m confident that I can achieve that playing for Bristol.

“I’d like to thank everybody at Edinburgh Rugby – I’ve had an incredible time playing there and will hold many fond memories.”

Bristol director of rugby Andy Robinson, who awarded Rennie the most recent of his 20 Scotland caps in November 2012, said: “We’re pleased to add Ross to the squad as we continue to build for the new season.

“Ross’s professionalism and consistency in his performances during his relatively short time at the club have helped drive the quality and standards in the squad.”
