Former Blues and Brumbies coach David Nucifora is to bolster Joe Schmidt’s brains trust at the Irish Rugby Union.

Nucifora is expected to join as high performance director for the IRU, completing their staff ahead of next year’s World cup.

Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt was Nucifora’s assistant during his time at the Blues and is thought to have ratified his appointment.

The move is likely to be confirmed after the wrangling over the future of European club rugby is sorted.
