Manly Sea Eagles fullback Brett Stewart has been arrested for allegedly drink driving.

The 29-year-old player failed a breath test after being pulled over in the northern Sydney suburb of Warriewood on Monday morning, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

Police said Stewart was arrested and charged with low-level drink-driving, allegedly returning a blood-alcohol level of 0.079.

He was released on bail and is expected to appear before Manly Local Court on May 7.

The popular player told the Daily Telegraph that he was ‘disappointed’ over the situation.

‘I had a few drinks last night. I went home, went to bed and got up this morning,’ he explained as he left the police station. ‘I thought I was fine and headed off for some breakfast. I got pulled over and I blew low range.’

‘I’m really disappointed this has happened. I had no idea I was over the limit.

‘There’s no way I would have got behind the wheel if I thought there was a problem.’

The Manly-Waringah football club released a statement including the basic details of the offence and saying they would not be making any further comment on the matter.

In 2009 the Sydney man was accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl after a Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles season launch, however a judge found Stewart not guilty.

He was also arrested in 2013 after a fight at The Shark Bar on Manly Corso last January, but was not charged.

Stewart has played for Australia, and also represented New South Wales in the State Of Origin.
