Vernon returns to the Warriors having spent two years with Sale Sharks and his last Scotland appearance came in June 2012 in the 17-16 victory over Samoa.
And while Vernon admits breaking into Gregor Townsendâs side will not be easy, he believes he will edge closer to an international return if he does, having missed out on this yearâs RBS 6 Nations.
“It’s a big factor in why I decided to come back up the road,” said Vernon.
“I’ve been really impressed with what Gregor Townsend’s been building here and the performances that Glasgow put in.
“It’s a great chance for me to come back home and I really want to be successful with Glasgow Warriors.
“There’s so much competition for places here and you’re competing against guys that you’re competing with for the national side.
“I know that if I play well here I’ve got a good chance of getting back into that national set-up.
“With the way Scotland are going at the moment with new players and young players getting blooded, they’re only going to improve the next couple of years.”
