Wakefield are also set to offer a foundation degree in rugby league from 2014.

That plan is part of a new college being set up at the club’s stadium and designed to specialise in sports-based education.

The Sport and Education Academy will run BTEC vocational courses at level 3 – equivalent to A-level – from September.

Club spokesman Mark Winder said: “We want to use this opportunity to strengthen links with Eton, who provide their pupils with a first-class educational experience.”
