Jonny Gray: To lead Scotland A against England

Glasgow lock Jonny Gray has been named as captain of the Scotland A side that will take on England Saxons in Glasgow next Friday night.

The 19-year-old, who won his first full cap in November against South Africa, captained Scotland U20s in last season’s Six Nations and Junior World Championship.

Scotland A coach Shade Munro said: “Jonny is a mature player and the feedback I received from Sean Lineen was that he was an excellent and successful captain for Scotland U20 last year.

“He is definitely one of the leaders in this squad and at Glasgow he’s one of our line-out callers. Therefore, he is creating a skill set that is suitable to leading a team.

“The A team is about developing players and captains, so this is an excellent opportunity for him to step up.”

Gray added: “It’s a massive honour to have the chance to captain Scotland A and I’m very grateful to be in the squad.

“Captaining the U20s last year was a great experience and has brought my

confidence on. Also, at Glasgow big Al Kellock has been a huge influence and

support to me.”
