No change to Bath Rugby"s LV= Cup clash at Leicester Tigers

Bath Rugby’s LV= Cup clash at Leicester Tigers will go ahead as planned on Friday (7.45pm).

The contest at Welford Road faced the possibility of being rescheduled after Tigers’ match at Harlequins was called off after 70 minutes on Saturday.

Quins were leading 20-6 at that stage before referee Gwyn Morris called a halt to the game on safety grounds because of gale-force winds.

Early reports suggested the game would have to be replayed but the tournament’s organising committee have today decided that the result will stand, meaning there will be no change to this weekend’s fixtures.

A statement read: “Following the abandonment of Harlequins v Leicester Tigers in Saturday’s Round 3 LV= Cup match, the LV= Cup organising committee met this morning to review the circumstances under which the match was abandoned.

“The organising committee concluded that the match was abandoned due to weather conditions, and so the result will stand.”

Bath booked their place in the LV= Cup semi-finals with a 24-13 defeat of Cardiff Blues at The Rec on Saturday.

They have an unassailable lead at the top of Pool 3 and can guarantee themselves a home tie in the last four with another victory at Welford Road.

Leicester enter the match seeking a win to keep their hopes of qualification alive. They are third in Pool 2 and must better both Sale Sharks and Exeter Chiefs’ results if they are to progress.
