TIM Swinson hopes to celebrate his new contract at Glasgow with his first Six Nations cap for Scotland
this weekend.
The giant lineout star was thrilled last night when he clinched a fresh deal with Warriors – the club that rescued his big-stage career.
And the icing on his cake would come this morning if he is in the picture when national coach Scott Johnson reveals his lineup for the tournament opener against Ireland in Dublin on Sunday.
Swinson, who made the move from Newcastle Falcons to the Warriors at the start of last season, will be at Scotstoun until May 2017 at the earliest, despite being the target of several top European sides.
He said: “I’m really happy to have agreed this new deal. My game has really developed since I came and I’m now playing for my country, so it was an easy decision.
“I’m ambitious and I want to win trophies and I believe we’re building a squad capable of doing that.
“This has been a fantastic move for me and I’m looking forward to the next three years in Glasgow.â€
Warriors chief Gregor Townsend said: “It’s also great news for us as a club that we’ve got a long-term commitment from a quality player, who works hard to get better every day.
“Now he’s an international player he’s never looked back. We’re delighted that he’s decided to stay.
“He made a great impact in his first three outings for Scotland last year and we wish him well in the Six Nations.â€
