BRISTOL Rugby have quickly followed up the signing of Dwayne Peel by confirming Bath prop Anthony Perenise will join them this summer.

The 31-year-old tighthead, who has 15 caps for Samoa, has appeared in 11 of Bath’s 12 Aviva Premiership matches so far this season – including starting Sunday’s 27-27 draw at Leicester.

Bristol director of rugby Andy Robinson praised the attributes of former Hurricanes man Perenise, who has agreed a three-year contract with the club.

“Standing at 6ft and weighing in at 18 stone, Anthony is a formidable individual,” said Robinson. “He’s a powerful scrummager with a great technical ability.

“Aside from his obvious power, Anthony is quick and mobile – an attribute that we’ve seen him display regularly at Bath.

“He’ll be a real asset to our pack next season and I’m delighted we’ve secured his services at Bristol Rugby.”

Perenise, whose signature had been coveted by a number of top-flight clubs, said he was attracted by Bristol’s ambition and attacking style of play.

“I’m delighted to be joining Bristol,” he said. “Having met with Andy [Robinson] and Sean [Holley], I was impressed by their ambition and the determination to take the club forward.

“The attacking style of rugby that Bristol have adopted is something that attracted me – it suits my game and the way I want to play.

“I’m looking forward to showing the supporters what I can do next season and am excited about a fresh challenge.”
