Brian O’Driscoll swapped the rugby pitch for the comfort of a studio as he made a seamless transition from player to pundit on TV last night.
A playing jersey was discarded for a casual shirt and jeans as the Leinster and Ireland rugby legend looked at ease in his new surroundings on BT’s weekly rugby programme Rugby Tonight.
The Dubliner was in esteemed company with Lawrence Dallaglio, Martin Bayfield, Ben Kay, Matt Dawson and Austin Healy also in studio, with presenter Craig Doyle keeping up the Irish contingent.
Austin Healy, a former Lions team-mate of O’Driscoll, introduced the new recruit as “the second most naturally gifted player to have played the game”, high praise from a player and pundit noted for his self-confidence.
O’Driscoll strided to his studio seat to Carly Simon’s Nobody Does It Better.
“The inner fat person hasn’t burst out,” O’Driscoll admitted before conceding he was excited at the next chapter in his life.
“It will be strange for the first few months, but I haven’t missed pre-season.”
