England Rugby Union coach, Stuart Lancaster, to open new sixth form building ...

England Rugby Union coach Stuart Lancaster will officially open Crofton Academy’s new £900,000 sixth form building tomorrow.

The former Kettlethorpe High School PE teacher, who is currently preparing for next year’s Rugby World Cup, will cut the ribbon before the start of an interactive tour of the centre.

Crofton Sixth Form launched in September 2013 as a partnership between Wakefield College and Crofton Academy.

Courses have been running from temporary buildings in the academy grounds at High Street but students will now be able to use the new building to study for AS and A levels as well as BTEC Extended Diplomas.

Jez Horsley, headteacher at Crofton Academy said: “The school has had a long-held ambition of offering post-16 options and it was something the local community and our governors had wished for.

“This collaboration with Wakefield College has been very successful and this fantastic new building is a testament to that.”

Wakefield College Principal, Sam Wright added: “The new Crofton Sixth Form marks another key milestone for both Wakefield College and Crofton Academy.

“I am delighted with how the new building looks and I’m sure the students from Crofton and the wider district will benefit from it for years to come.”
