Ex-Ireland rugby ace O"Driscoll in Belfast

RUGBY fans in Belfast are in for a treat this week as former Irish international rugby star Brian O’Driscoll visits the city to make a TV film about a local charity.

With his playing days behind him the former Leinster and Ireland captain, who played for his county 133 times, was making up for lost time when he tucked into a full Irish fry at Cultúrlann in the heart of west Belfast yesterday morning.

The 35-year-old has taken the role as an expert rugby analyst for BT Sport since retiring from international rugby earlier this year.

He is in Belfast to help make a documentary about the work of The Supporters’ Club – a BT initiative that brings people together through sport – that will be broadcast on BT Sport next month.

While in Belfast filmmakers are looking at the work of the Active Communities Network.

Based on the Whiterock Road, the youth and community development charity seeks to tackle poverty and social deprivation.

A spokesman for BT Sport said: “The film focuses on the work of Active Communities Network in Belfast, which recently received a grant from The Supporters Club, enabling them to deliver a sports-based employability project across Belfast. The film premieres in October on BT Sport. The new film is the eighth film produced by BT Sport Films to showcase the work of The Supporters Club.”
