Former England rugby captain Martin Johnson banned from driving

The star and former England coach was fined £800 and banned from driving for 49 days for “overtaking all other traffic” on the M5.  

Today campaigners criticised the sportsman, saying his driving set a poor example for others.


Johnson was stopped by police on the M5 in Somerset as he returned from a weekend away at his holiday home in Salcombe, Devon.The 43-year-old, of Mowsley, Leicestershire, had been in the fast lane in his Range Rover near Bridgewater when he was pulled over at around 10pm on August 13.


Stephen Gooden, defending, told magistrates: “He admitted his guilt at the first available opportunity and co-operated with police.
