Ben Fisher: Hoping to add to his 12 caps for Scotland
London Broncos and Scotland hooker Ben Fisher has confirmed that he will retire from rugby league following the World Cup.
The former Hull KR forward has spent 10 years playing his trade in England and France, and he is hoping to add to his 12 Scotland caps in Tuesday’s World Cup opener against Tonga.
The Sydney-born Fisher, whose father was born and raised in Glasgow, played in the last World Cup in 2008 and was in the team that beat semi-finalists Fiji.
“I’ve had a great career and can’t think of a better way to go out, competing in a second World Cup,” he said.
“I’ve been involved in about eight Scotland squads I think and this is the best I’ve seen.”
Brisbane Broncos scrum-half Peter Wallace is set to make his Bravehearts debut against Tonga alongside Gold Coast stars Matt Russell and Luke Douglas and fellow NRL player Kane Linnett (North Queensland).
Super League duo Danny Addy (Bradford) and Ben Kavanagh (Widnes) are also expected to start the Group C/D clash at Derwent Park in Workington.
