Crash crisis for the Wakefield Cats

“We can survive and still be competitive. We will definitely be in Super League next year”

Michael Carter

“The club has been run hand-to-mouth and we are spending more than we have got coming in. It is not rocket science – we have got to cut our cloth.”

Half-back Tim Smith was sold to Salford on Friday so that his team-mates’ wages could be paid.

Carter, who took over as chairman of the club two weeks ago, admits he doesn’t know where the money he needs will come from. But he is adamant that the club will not go bust, and insisted: “We can survive and still be competitive. We will definitely be in Super League next year.

“We have the budget in place for next year. Tim has gone and I hope that is the end of it, but I cannot promise that.”
