Jamie Roberts revealed how Ryan Giggs inspired Wales to end their Six Nations campaign with a record 51-3 win over Scotland at the Millennium Stadium.
The Welsh football legend paid a surprise visit to the teamâs dressing room at Twickenham. That helped the Dragons shake off the defeat to England and set them back on course to roar back to form in Cardiff.
Roberts said: âRyan Giggs walked into the dressing room straight after the game at Twickenham.
âIt was a real boost because there was some despair after losing to England the way we did.
âI was shell-shocked to get the chance to talk to Giggs. Heâs an absolute legend of Welsh sport and the guys were stunned he knew each and every one of our names.
âWe spoke about different things, including Manchester Unitedâs season, which is not going how he or they would want it to be. There was a parallel to us.
âHeâs had so many highs in his career but there have been defeats as well. We spoke about how you recover from those low moments.â
Wales recovered with their biggest win in Championship history to claim third place in the final standings.
But that could not gloss over the hurt of losing their title.
Alun Wyn Jones said: âWe can be happy with our three home wins but weâre bitterly disappointed with our two losses away from home.
âWe didnât get our game going in Ireland and didnât take our chances against England.
âA few years ago we would be happy with three home wins but our ambition is way beyond that now.â
George North and Jamie Roberts scored twice while Liam Williams, Toby Faletau and Rhodri Williams also crossed in this Millennium Stadium rout.
But they were given a huge helping hand by Stuart Hogg.
The 21-year-old full-back became only the third Scottish international sent-off in 143 years when his shoulder smashed into Dan Biggarâs face.
Â
Sam Warburton will undergo surgery this week after dislocating his shoulder in the final moments to take the gloss off the victory.
He follows a similar blow to Leigh Halfpenny that has ruled both Lions stars of Wales’ summer tour to South Africa.
Jones added: âWe knew there were going to be more opportunities when they went down to 14 men and the boys coming into the team really took their chances.
âItâs very pleasing that thereâs a lot of players putting their hands up for selection with the tour to South Africa ahead of us.â
