BRISTOL Rugby have confirmed former London Welsh head coach Danny Wilson will join them as forwards coach on a three-year deal this summer.

The 37-year-old, who was born in Weston-super-Mare, is currently forwards coach at Llanelli-based RaboDirect Pro12 club Scarlets.

Wilson will replace Matt Ferguson, who will leave Bristol at the end of the season after two seasons with the club.

Bristol director of rugby Andy Robinson said: “Danny’s track record speaks for itself – he has a reputation for nurturing players.

“He has significant experience in Wales – with the national team and the regions – and we are confident that Danny can add value to what we are trying to build at Bristol.

“I’d like to thank Matthew Ferguson, whose hard work over the past two seasons has ensured that the solid foundations have been put in place.”

In addition to his experience with Scarlets, London Welsh and Newport Gwent Dragons – where he served as forwards coach between 2010 and 2012 – Wilson is a former Wales Under-20s head coach.

He led his young Welsh side to a third-placed finish in the IRB Junior World Championship in 2012, before finishing runners-up in 2013.

He has also worked extensively with the Welsh Sevens and senior squads.

Wilson said: “Bristol has traditionally prided itself on having a dominant pack and I’m looking forward to developing that element over the next few years with a talented group of players.”

Wilson will remain with Scarlets on a part-time basis as scrum coach once he joins Bristol.
