LONGTON marked Chris Tennuci’s farewell appearance with a 24-10 triumph at home to Scunthorpe in National League Three Midlands.
Tennuci departs after seven years because of work commitments forcing him to leave the area.
He left behind a Longton team heading into their Christmas break on a high after a hard-earned, but deserved, win to avenge defeat at Scunthorpe earlier in the season.
Longton’s powerful scrummaging was evident against their collapsing visitors and the home side’s first two scores were penalty tries.
Their third score came in eye-catching circumstances as Gareth Rawlings ventured forward and produced a grubber kick for Josh Fowles to gather and dive over the line.
Victory was already in the bag in the closing stages, but Longton’s task was a fourth try and a bonus point.
And their efforts were rewarded from a rolling maul over the Scunthorpe try line from which Rawlings emerged claiming the try.
MARCUS Broad’s titanic defensive display helped SANDBACH to an 18-10 win at Lymm in National League Three Midlands.
Broad made a series of powerful tackles before leaping back to his feet to re-organise Sandbach’s defences to restrict Lymm to just one penalty as they chased the game in the second half.
Sandbach’s points had arrived before the break as Benny Elliot and Simon Verbickas kicked for the corners to provide a constant and useful platform.
Mike Eggleston crashed through the home defence for their first try after Joe Hickey had stolen at a line-out.
Elliot then converted two penalties before a Verbickas chip left Sandbach marauding goalwards and John Smith scoring under the posts.
STOKE conceded eight tries in their 46-22 loss at Kenilworth in Midlands One West.
Stoke responded with three tries of their own, but were always behind the game.
The visitors opened their account when an Andy Marsh break set up a scrum from which Robert Spruce broke through the defence.
And Marsh himself claimed their second shortly before the break after the ball was moved wide from a line-out.
Stoke’s third and final try saw Chris Rowley dart over from a tap penalty.
